Keller/Lill Are Close To The Overall Victory

Keller/Lill are close to the overall victory

Alessandra Keller and Candice Lill (Thömus maxon – Sabi Sabi) have won the sixth stage of the prestigious Cape Epic around Stellenbosch. On the 60-kilometer penultimate stage, they edged out the duo of Margot Moschetti (FRA) and Claudia Peretti (ITA), putting the overall victory within their grasp.

«Our primary goal was never stage wins, but rather the overall victory after eight days,» explained Alessandra Keller. «Of course, stage wins help, but it’s just as important to get through the week without mechanical issues, staying healthy and crash-free. Every stage was extremely tough. We had to pace ourselves carefully—even we had to take it a bit easier on one day,» Keller continued.

Courtney/Seiwald forced to withdraw

Today’s race saw a decisive shift in the overall standings following the withdrawal of the team featuring Kate Courtney and Greta Seiwald, who had been in second place. Due to Seiwald’s illness, they were forced to withdraw from the race early. Keller and Lill now hold a lead of over 48 minutes over the team of Hayley Preen (RSA) and Haley Smith (Can).

Ahead of the final stage, the situation looks promising for Keller and Lill—yet they remain fully focused: «Our goal for tomorrow is clear: ride clean, don’t crash, and avoid mechanical issues. Nothing else matters. We want to secure the overall victory without taking any unnecessary risks.»

The Short Track World Champion is looking forward to tomorrow’s final stage with great anticipation: «We’re incredibly excited for the last stage. We’re healthy, we’re ready, and our bikes are working perfectly.»
