Alessandra Keller Triumphant In The Engelberg Mud

Alessandra Keller triumphant in the Engelberg mud

Team leader Alessandra Keller rode to an unchallenged start-finish victory in cold and wet conditions at her home race in Engelberg. Lars Forster also put in a strong performance until a front wheel defect slowed him down and ruined his podium chances.

After the persistent rainfall of the past days and weeks, the ÖKK Bike Revolution in Engelberg promised to be a real mud battle. However, the challenging conditions did not seem to impress local heroine Alessandra Keller. On the contrary: she took the lead right from the start and crossed the finish line solo on every lap. With a lead of two minutes, she was never in danger of losing her position.A real mud fight

At the finish line, Keller was delighted with the home crowd and praised the local organising committee for the excellently prepared course. “I’m making good progress towards my next season goals. I will use the upcoming race-free time for a solid training block,” she explained. Joining Keller on the podium were Seraina Leugger and Linda Indergand (both CH).

Forster slowed down by a defect

The men’s race was characterised by exciting battles for position. Thömus maxon rider Lars Forster was always at the front of the field and gave rise to hopes that he would start one of his famous chases in the second half of the race. However, a flat front tyre put the brakes on his run to a top position. Despite a quick repair, it was no longer enough to catch up with the leading group. Forster finished the race in sixth place. The Swiss riders Guerrini, Schurter and Rüegg finished on the podium.

Positive outlook despite setbacks

Team boss Ralph Näf was satisfied after the team leader’s victory. “Alessandra’s victory outshines everything. But the rest of the team also performed well. Lars Forster was at the front until his defect and Luke Wiedmann also rode a great race in the U23 race until his defect. Unfortunately, he crashed during his chase to catch up and had to abandon the race. I’m also positive about Vital Albin’s performance. Now we’re looking forward to the race-free period to be in top form for the upcoming races.”

Mathias Flückiger did not travel to Engelberg due to illness.
