No World Championship medals for the Thömus maxon

The World Championships in Vallnord (Andorra) ended without any medals for the Thömus maxon team. While Luke Wiedmann missed out on bronze in the U23 race by just a few seconds, Mathias Flückiger put in an impressive performance in eighth place, one week after his appendix operation. Alessandra Keller once again did not have luck on her side with a crash.

Luke Wiedmann was just eight seconds short of bronze in the U23 race. An impressive performance, which unfortunately was not rewarded with a medal. The disappointment was understandably huge, but the satisfaction of an extremely hard-fought performance will outweigh the disappointment after a while.

Flückiger impressive one week after surgery

Mathias Flückiger achieved a highly regarded 8th place. The fact that this result was achieved one week after an appendix oparation under general anesthesia makes this resualt a success. Flückiger analyzed: “A week and a half ago I was in absolute top form; I could feel that in training. With the operation, the conditions today were anything but optimal. But I tried to take it as it is. Of course I felt the stomach and the scar in the race. But I just gave everything I could. It’s a shame, but things don’t always go together in life.”

Lars Forster showed a consistent race over the entire distance and finished in 20th place.

Keller without a chance after a crash

Alessandra Keller was hugely disappointed after the race and 21st place: “After a fast start, I had deliberately slowed down my pace. But then I was pushed off, crashed heavily on my knee and the race was actually over. I’m just disappointed,” concluded Alessandra Keller.

For the Thömus maxon team, the World Championships do not mean the end of the season. There are still several races on the Swiss calendar and the last two World Cups overseas at the beginning of October will definitely be an opportunity to forget the World Championships.
