Successful on many fronts
Team Thömus maxon was active and successful on many fronts last weekend. While the focus was on the road races at the Berner Rundfahrt and the UCI road race in Märwil, Vital Albin was also a success on the MTB on Saturday.
While the whole team was fully focused on a road weekend, Vital Albin was the only one of the team to ride on two tracks. Albin took part in the C1 race of the Skoda Swiss Bike Cup in Schaan (Lie) on Saturday and scored important UCI points with a good 5th place.
Victory for Keller, Halter narrowly misses the podium
Meanwhile, Alessandra Keller and the entire men’s team were in action on Saturday at the traditional Berner Rundfahrt, a race on the national calendar. Keller was able to secure a commanding victory in the competition, which is part of the Swiss Women’s Cup. The men’s team, reinforced by Nicolas Halter and Loris Hättenschwiler, both from the Devo team Thömus Akros Youngstars, played also an active role. Nicolas Halter and Lars Forster reached the finish in a leading group of eleven riders. Halter just missed out on the podium in fourth place; Forster finished 7th.
No podium finish but valuable experience and intensive physical strains
Just one day later, another road race was on the program with the Radsportfest Märwil. The international 1.2 race for men concluded the road program, which was being run for the first time. Once again, young star Nicolas Halter was able to present himself from his best side. He found shelter in an early breakaway group, which was never caught again, and finished in a respectable 5th place. The race was won by WorldTour pro Stefan Bissegger. Lars Forster and Vital Albin, who missed the early breakaway, rode a strong finale and finished on position 14 and 20.
Alessandra Keller also contested her second road race in 24 hours in Märwil. Here too, a leading group broke away early on, but Keller missed out. As the two strongest and largest teams were represented at the front, there was never any unity in the field. Alessandra Keller made the best of the situation and finished in 4th place.
Conclusion: the entire Thömus maxon team gained valuable experience and put themselves under intense physical strains, producing some top sporting performances in the process. The team is in the right track for the next World Cup in Nove Mesto (Cze) at the end of May.
