No exploit at the European Championships
At the European Mountain Bike Championships in Melgaço (POR), the Thömus maxon men’s elite duo fell short of expectations.
In Thursday’s Short Track (XCC), Lars Forster finished 14th and his teammate Vital Albin came in 19th.
In Sunday’s Olympic cross-country race (XCO), Lars Forster was unable to compete for the top places and finished 25th. He was not in top form at the start after being treated with antibiotics for an abscess in his seat area and falling behind in training as a result.
Vital Albin finished the race in 29th place. ‘I just didn’t have good legs today,’ said Albin at the finish line. ‘Now the focus is on the second half of the season.’
The European Championship titles went to Tom Pidcock (GBR) in XCO and Luca Schätti (SUI) in XCC.
Youngsters provide highlight
The U23 riders of the Thömus Akros Youngstars Team attracted positive attention. Monique Halter narrowly missed out on the XCO podium in fourth place and put in a strong performance. Her brother Nicolas Halter also achieved a solid result in 11th place.
