Double victory by Flückiger and Albin

Team Thömus maxon underlines their claims at the opening race of the ÖKK Bike Revolution in Ticino and shines with an excellent team result. Mathias Flückiger wins clearly ahead of team mate Vital Albin 254 days after his last victory. Lars Forster completes the men’s podium in fifth place. In the women’s race, Alessandra Keller did not have a perfect day, but still came in a good fifth in a strong field.

Shortly before the start of the men’s race, light rain set in on Monte Tamaro. Thus, the riders of the elite category were a bit uncertain about the condition of the demanding course. This did not seem to irritate the eventual winner, Mathias Flückiger, as he attacked after the first descent. “The start here on Monte Tamaro is always tough, but I felt good from the start,” Flückiger admitted after crossing the finish line. He quickly realised that nobody could keep up with him. So he is happy to take the good feeling with him into the next races, he summarised further.

“It’s nice to be able to win again so quickly,” confirms a happy Flückiger

Right next to Flückiger on the podium is Vital Albin. Still in the lead at the start loop, he perfectly implemented the team tactics after Flückiger took over the top position. He let the other riders do the work and was able to take second place in the end. In the end, he crossed the finish line some 2:30 minutes behind Flückiger. “The conditions were difficult at the beginning of the race, but I’m happy with second place and satisfied with my performance,” said Albin in the finish interview. Lars Forster rounded off the good team result with his fifth place. He suffered a puncture in the start phase and fell back into the field. Without this mishap, he would certainly have made it further up the field.

Not a perfect day for Keller, but she still made it to the podium

Alessandra Keller confirmed her good spring form with her fifth place. “It was a tough race for me. I rode clean and gave what was possible on today. Therefore, I am satisfied with the result,” Keller answered the questions after her finish. Young Luke Wiedmann showed himself active again and again during the race and classified in third place in a well-stocked U23 field.
