Alessandra Keller wins silver at the Swiss Championships

With a silver medal for Alessandra Keller, a strong fifth-place finish by Vital Albin, and two U23 titles won by Monique Halter and Nicolas Halter, Thömus maxon looks back on a successful weekend at the Swiss Championships in Leysin.

After winning the Swiss championship title in short track on Friday, Alessandra Keller remained in contention for gold until the very end in the Olympic cross-country event as well. In a high-level and thrilling duel with Nicole Koller, the outcome wasn’t decided until the final lap. Koller was able to pull away decisively there and secure the championship title. A minor technical issue during the last three laps made it even harder for Keller to keep up. With gold in short track and silver in cross-country, the reigning XCC world champion’s performance at the Swiss Championships was nonetheless extremely positive.

Albin close to a medal

In the men’s race, Thömus maxon was also in the mix for the medals. Behind Dario Lillo, who won his first elite title, and Fabio Püntener, a thrilling three-way battle for bronze unfolded. Vital Albin fought for a spot on the podium right down to the final meters, but in the end had to concede defeat to Marcel Guerrini, who won bronze, and Luke Wiedmann. With a fifth-place finish, Albin nonetheless delivered a strong performance and confirmed his good form. Lars Forster was unable to contend for a medal and finished the race in a solid 8th place.

4 gold medals for the youngstars

The Thömus Akros Youngstars program capped off a perfect championship weekend. Monique and Nicola Halter continued their impressive winning streak, securing gold medals in the Olympic cross-country event to add to their short-track titles. The siblings thus provided a spectacular finale and once again demonstrated the team’s strong commitment to developing young talent.

Focus on the home European Championships

Following the national championships, a short break from competition is now on the schedule. The focus is already turning to the next highlight of the season: the European Championships on home soil at Monte Ceneri, where Alessandra Keller, Vital Albin, and Mathias Flückiger will compete for the national team.
