Keller Claims First Leogang XCC Podium
Heavy rain, muddy conditions and constant position changes characterised the Short Track (XCC) World Cup in Leogang. World Champion Alessandra Keller secured third place and celebrated her first-ever XCC podium in Leogang, while the men’s squad of Thömus maxon laid a promising foundation for Sunday’s Cross-country race with solid performances.
Persistent rain and deep mud turned the Leogang Short Track into a true battle of attrition. The demanding conditions tested the riders to their limits and provided the spectators with thrilling racing, countless overtaking manoeuvres and several crashes.
Keller rewarded for aggressive approach
Alessandra Keller made a perfect start and moved from the second row straight to the front of the field within the opening metres. The reigning World Champion rode aggressively throughout the race and remained among the leaders despite the challenging conditions.
Her attacking style was rewarded with third place. Sina Frei (SUI) took the victory ahead of Jenny Rissveds (SWE).
“It was a good race for me and I’m really happy to take my first XCC podium in Leogang. I focused on riding my own race and chose an aggressive approach. Despite the mud, the course was actually very enjoyable to ride,” Keller said afterwards.
Solid performances from the men’s team
The men’s race was equally demanding, with slippery conditions making for a hectic contest. The Thömus maxon riders consistently held strong positions throughout the race.
Lars Forster delivered another solid performance to finish 11th, while two-time Leogang winner Mathias Flückiger crossed the line in 12th. Vital Albin raced aggressively and claimed 23rd place after an attacking ride.
The race was won by Simon Andreassen (DEN), ahead of Filippo Colombo (SUI) and Luca Martin (FRA).
Team manager Ralph Näf was pleased with the day’s racing: “The conditions were extremely challenging, but the organisers did a fantastic job. Alessandra’s podium result obviously stands out, but the men’s riders have also put themselves in a good position. This course suits us and we want to be in contention on Sunday.”
First World Cup victory for Monique Halter
Monique Halter from Team Thömus Akros Youngstars provided another highlight. She won the U23 women’s race, securing her first World Cup victory.
