Thömus maxon Wins the Berner Rundfahrt
A successful outing for Thömus maxon at the traditional Berner Rundfahrt in Lyss: Lars Forster claimed victory in the men’s race after a strong solo effort, while Alessandra Keller won the elite women’s race. For Mathias Flückiger, the focus was on rebuilding race rhythm following his return from South Korea.
The traditional road race, held on Saturday 9 May, took place on a selective circuit around Lyss and served as an important race for the Thömus maxon riders ahead of the upcoming Mountain Bike World Cup events.
Forster launches decisive attack
The men’s race was aggressive from the very beginning. Already on the first of four laps, Lars Forster broke away from the peloton together with two other riders. The trio worked well together for much of the race before Forster launched the decisive attack on the climb towards Frienisberg during the final lap.
The Eastern Swiss rider managed to open a gap and held on to a narrow advantage all the way to the finish.
“After my attack there was still a long way to the finish. Fortunately, I managed to hold the gap until the end. It’s always nice to win a race,” said Forster afterwards.
Mathias Flückiger crossed the line with the main field and finished in 20th place.
Keller victorious in the women’s race
In the elite women’s race, Alessandra Keller secured the win and added another strong result to her season so far. For the rider from Central Switzerland, the event also marked the beginning of her next intensive racing block.
Perfect timing ahead of the World Cup
Team manager Ralph Näf was pleased with his team’s performance and described the race as an important step in the season build-up:
“Lars and Mathias only returned from South Korea a few days ago and were able to ride the last effects of the jet lag out of their legs here in Lyss. For Alessandra, this race marked the start of a new racing block ahead of the European opening round of the Mountain Bike World Cup in Nové Město.”
