Strong Flückiger finishes 4th in crazy race
Mathias Flückiger of the Swiss MTB team Thömus maxon showed a strong performance at the Cross-Country World Cup in Snowshoe (USA) and finished fourth – just ten seconds behind the winner Jordan Sarrou.

The start of the second last World Cup of the season in Snowshoe (USA) was only partly successful for Team Thömus maxon. The fourth place for Alessandra Keller was the highlight, but the Swiss champion was not satisfied with it.
For the second time in a row Vital Albin won the overall ranking of the CIC ON Swiss Bike Cup, the traditional Swiss race series. A fourth place in the final race in Gstaad was enough for Albin to put on the red jersey of the overall winner. At the same time, Alessandra Keller competed in the test event for the Olympic Games in Paris and gained valuable experience in view of the big goal next year.
Luke Wiedmann provides the highlight in Sunday's cross country races with his fifth place. In the elite categories, neither Alessandra Keller nor the men were able to match the performances of the previous weekends. Team manager Ralph Näf nevertheless does…
The Thömus maxon team started the third last World Cup weekend with a podium place for Alessandra Keller and two top ten results in the men’s race. The long straights and the dry surface made for exciting and close decisions.
This has never happened before! The Swiss MTB team Thömus maxon is currently number 1 in both the women’s and men’s world rankings. Since Tuesday, 5 September, Alessandra Keller and Lars Forster have been at the top of the international mountain bike ranking. With Mathias Flückiger in second place, the Swiss team even has a double lead in the men’s ranking. In the team ranking, Thömus maxon also climbs further up – to 2nd place.
Mathias Flückiger has doubled a week after his World Cup victory in Andorra and won his home race in Huttwil. At the same time Alessandra Keller won the final race of the ÖKK Bike Revolution.
After more than a year Mathias Flückiger is back on top of the World Cup podium! In the fifth World Cup race of the season in Andorra, the Swiss champion takes his tenth World Cup victory in his carreer. Alessandra Keller climbs to the second place on the podium and with her impressive performance ensures the second best career result at an XCO World Cup. With Lars Forster (6th), Luke Wiedmann (8th) and Vital Albin (10th) a fantastic team result succeeds for Thömus maxon.
After an animated women’s race, a no fewer exciting men’s race took place. While Alessandra Keller was able to take a victory, the race was half a lap too long for Mathias Flückiger to make it onto the podium.
Only little was missing and Alessandra Keller would have won a medal at the Elite World Championships. However, after a fantastic fight for bronze, the Swiss champion had to settle for fifth place. In the men’s race, Lars Forster, as the best of the Thömus maxon trio, took a strong 8th place – despite a defect.
