Strong comeback ride from Keller, Flückiger leaves Nové Město with confidence
Alessandra Keller delivered an impressive performance at the Cross-Country World Cup in Nové Město na Moravě, fighting her way through the field to finish fifth after a remarkable comeback ride. Mathias Flückiger also impressed with a strong recovery race, eventually securing a solid 12th place.
Following her crash in Friday’s Short Track race, Keller had to start from the fourth row on the grid. On the fast and dusty course, however, the Swiss rider delivered a tactically smart race and steadily moved forward lap after lap.
In the closing stages, Keller was even battling for a podium position before crossing the line in fifth after a strong sprint finish.
“The atmosphere along the course was incredible once again. The natural trails and technical sections here in Nové Město make this race something very special every year. I’m really happy with my performance today — this is something to build on,” said the Swiss Champion at the finish.
The women’s race was won by Laura Stigger (AUT) ahead of Jenny Rissveds (SWE) and Sina Frei (SUI).
Flückiger narrowly misses the top ten
Mathias Flückiger also delivered a strong performance in the men’s race. Starting from deep in the field, the Swiss rider quickly worked his way forward and impressed with his pace on the technically demanding sections of the course.
A mechanical issue during the first half of the race cost him valuable time and likely prevented an even stronger result. Nevertheless, Flückiger secured a solid 12th place after an aggressive and determined ride.
“I had a really good feeling today and probably rode one of my best races ever here in Nové Město. After recovering from illness, this result gives me a lot of confidence heading into Leogang, which is one of my favourite races,” Flückiger said afterwards.
Lars Forster finished 22nd after struggling with heavy legs throughout the race. Vital Albin initially rode strongly within the extended lead group before a mechanical issue in lap three dropped him back to 60th place.
The men’s race was won by Tom Pidcock (GBR) ahead of Luca Martin (FRA) and Filippo Colombo (SUI).
